12TH DAY
Today is the 12th day of Jo's Advent Hop. Every day there will be a new blogger(s) who will share a Christmas stitch and their favorite Christmas song. We are thrilled to take part in this fun, annual, holiday hop that Jo has so graciously put together. If you would like to read more about the hop and see a list of the other blogs to visit, go to Jo's blog at Serendipitous Stitching.

RJ's ornamentI made this one for Mary because of her love of birds. It is called "Christmas Birdhouse" by Country Cottage Needleworks. It was stitched on 40 ct. flax linen with over dyed threads. I used check and mini flower fabrics and green check ribbon ruched around the ornament. It took a whole roll of ribbon to make it nice and full. And, I love the little wreath button on the peak of the birdhouse.
Choosing my favorite Christmas song was hard to do because I love so many. My very favorite is "Oh Holy Night" by John Berry (who has an incredible voice) but it has been chosen a few times so I will pick another favorite which is "I'll be Home for Christmas" by Rascal Flatts. Love the harmony on this rendition.
You can find John Berry's "Oh Holy Night" here

Mary's Ornament
My Christmas Ornament is "Season of Love" by Diane Williams of Little House Needleworks.I used the called for DMC with the exception of substituting Weeks Chestnut for 869 and GA Cranberry for 3721.
"Season of Love" is one of my favorite ornaments in her series. It was a quick stitch and I love the sentiment as Christmastide is indeed the Season of Love.
My favorite song is "The Christmas Song" sung by Nat King Cole. I remember hearing it for the first time in my grandparents living room in the 1960's and ever since then it has been my favorite Christmas song.
You can find Nat King Cole's "Christmas song" here

DeleteThanks for sharing your lovely ornaments! Merry Christmas to you both and wishes for a stitch filled New Year!
ReplyDeleteBoth ornaments are precious. How does one choose a favorite Christmas song? I have so many! That picture of the dog is hilarious. I just sent it out as a text to my dog loving family.
ReplyDeleteLovely stitching as usual. I need to do a few more for my tree here at home but that will wait until next year. I have moved on to Winter Stitching. ( You will see it on Saturday Stitching). My favorite Christmas song is Oh Holy Night with Joy to the World a close second. Merry Christmas RJ and Mary!!
ReplyDeleteYour ornaments are so pretty. It is hard to pick a favorite Christmas song but I really love Oh Come All Ye Faithful. Hope you both have a very Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteBoth of your ornaments are fabulous! I have stitched the birdhouse one and totally enjoyed it. I need to add Season of Love to the pile for 2019. I love O Holy Night and catch myself singing/humming it throughout the year. Wishing each of you a joyous Christmas season!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful Christmas ornaments! I just love Christmas music and play it daily all season long.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Christmas Ornaments to each other.
ReplyDeleteYou know how much I love your blog ,it is always a lovely read full of goodies thankyou Enjoy your Christmas dear friends.
Lovely Christmas ornaments, RJ and Mary!!
ReplyDeleteAll of Nat King Cole music is amazing! The first Noel song is my favourite!
Happy Holidays, RJ and Mary!! Merry Christmas to both of you!
Two very pretty ornaments!
ReplyDeleteLove both your music selections....but Nat King Cole wins hands down! What a voice.
Wishing you both (and your families!) a very Merry Christmas.
Two wonderful ornaments.
ReplyDeleteHoping you both have a fabulous festive season.
Thanks for taking part in the Advent Calendar this year. Two lovely ornaments and three great songs too! I am really enjoying our musical entertainment this year.

What wonderful ornaments Mary & RJ. I'm trying to think of a favorite Christmas song or two...
ReplyDeleteBoth of the ornaments are so pretty and I love both of the finishes. Thank you for sharing the songs!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful ornaments you have both stitched! I love the bird on that birdhouse R.J. and Mary your little snowmen are adorable! Yes Christmas is the season of love! I love Christmas music and there are so many carols that I love but Silent Night is by far my favorite for very sentimental reasons. When I was a little girl around 2 years old my mom and dad took me to church to see the Christmas Pageant performed by the children in the school. At the end of the pageant they sang Silent Night and my mom said I was sitting in her lap and singing Silent Night right along with the children...she said she had tears pouring down her cheeks as did the other ladies sitting near us. ☺️ I also loved singing it with Scott on Christmas Eve in the candlelight of our church. Just a few little memories! Hugs my dear friends! Merry Christmas!❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful Christmas Bird House looks, great finish. But also Season of Love has a great finish.
ReplyDeleteI wish you both a nice Advent and Christmas.
Big Hugs, Martina
Beautiful ornaments. Love the Rascal Flatts version of I'll be Home. I had never heard it before. Thanks for sharing!! Love the photo of the dog you shared too. Too cute!
ReplyDeleteGreat ornaments ladies and lovely choice of songs for us to listen to.
ReplyDeleteBoth of your ornaments are wonderful! Anyone would be pleased to receive them as gifts.
ReplyDeleteI like your choices of favorite Christmas music. My favorite is Carol of the Bells.
Very pretty ornaments and lovely songs :) I feel some oldschool Christmas going on here!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by for a visit Leonore. We hope you come by often. Have a lovely holiday with you and yours. RJ
DeleteOh, these are both adorable, RJ and Mary! Mary, I made the snowman couple for my oldest and his wife last Christmas... Still need to figure out what one to make them for this year--eek! I am running out of time as you probably feel you are, too.
ReplyDeleteLove your choice of carols. RJ, my favorite is the same as yours--I never tire of that beautiful song. It gives me shivers each time I hear it!
If you don't post again before Christmas, I wish you the best of the season--time spent with family and friends to enjoy the beauty of Christmas... ♥♥♥
RJ I love the little wreath too! Great stitching on the ornament for Mary and I love how you finished it.
ReplyDeleteMary, I LOVE the snowpeople! Snowmen have a special place in my world. Do you have birds or just a love for them?
I would not have been able to pick a favorite song because I like them all! ha ha
Merry Christmas Ladies and may 2019 be all you dream of!
Loved the ornaments and really enjoyed the music!
ReplyDeleteWishing you both a Very Happy Christmas!
Barbara xx
Such lovely ornaments, your stitching is lovely and the finishing is perfect!! (I love the wreath button too!) And both songs are lovely too! Merry Christmas to you both!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy my visit to your blog, and seeing your lovely stitching and finishing. Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteRJ: Yes, more O Holy Nights! :) Your little ornament is great and a whole ribbon to ruche... well, more power to you ahaha. The little button is perfect too.
ReplyDeleteMary: Your ribbon looks like Christmas candy! This is a sweet little stitch that's so great for the season. We love Nat King Cole's versions of the carols here in our house too!
RJ: The ornament is adorable, the ruching is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas
Mary: Positively lovely ornament.
ReplyDeleteI have to say my favorite Christmas song is Mary Did You Know by Pantatonix, a moving and beautiful song.
Merry Christmas
Catherine
Beautiful stitched ornaments, I love the ribbon ruching which makes all the difference. Great songs. Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteBoth lovely ornaments and finished beautifully!
ReplyDeleteAnd all three lovely songs.
Both of your ornaments are just beautiful! And some lovely selections for your favorite Christmas songs! Merry Christmas, RJ, and Mary!
ReplyDeleteRJ and Mary, I love your ornaments! Mary, that one is on my wish list of things to do someday. And I really like how both of you used ruched ribbon for the trim, how one was gathered fully and the other was loose in lovely loops (how's that for alliteration?).
ReplyDeleteOh, that meme is hilarious! The last year we had a real tree (we have an artificial one now), we had gone out of town for the weekend. When we got home, it had fallen over on its own (we didn't have a dog then) - broken ornaments and pine needles everywhere (no access to water, so the tree dried out). I was so tired and frustrated that I went to bed and said I'd deal with it in the morning. When I got up, there was no trace of the mess anywhere. Shawn had gotten up early and had gotten rid of all the "evidence." He said I had worked so hard to decorate the house that he didn't want me to have to deal with that mess.
My favorite Christmas song is Silent Night - any version of it. But one that really melts my heart is "The Spirit of Christmas" performed by Ray Charles (played in Christmas Vacation when Clark is stuck up in the attic). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaAdg_l38Cc
So lovely ornaments. I wish you a merry christmas.
ReplyDeleteWaving christmas greetings Larissa
Oh, your Christmas ornaments are really beautiful, both are very special.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the Christmas mood, thank you so much for the great Christmas songs, my favorite is Silent Night .... in german "Stille Nacht", I used to sing that under the Christmas tree when I was a child.
Merry Christmas, dear Mary and Roberta, and a Happy New Year,
Jutta
Both ornaments are lovely! Happy holidays! AriadnefromGreece!
ReplyDeleteTrying to catch up on the Advent hop! Lovely ornaments!
ReplyDeleteStill opening the doors of the Advent Calendar, nice visite to you, lovely ornaments! Joyeux Noël ! xxx
ReplyDeleteoooo now where to start … lovely ornaments from both of you ... nice choice of songs too ..listened to them all and still giggling at the last photo … wishing you both a merry Christmas and hope that the stash fairy is good to you … love mouse xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteWonderful Christmas smalls--love 'em.
ReplyDeleteRJ, "Oh, Holy Night" was the first solo I ever sang. At 16 I was too naive to know any better, but it couldn't have been that awful. Mom tells me a date I went on with a guy at church soon after was directly related to that solo--lol.
Speaking of laughter, Mary. The meme with the dog and the tree was hilarious.
